THE town of Watchet marked the 80th anniversary of Victory in Europe Day with a solemn and heartfelt ceremony held at the War Memorial, in Harbour Road.
Residents, veterans, and dignitaries gathered to remember the end of the Second World War in Europe and to honour those who served and sacrificed.
The ceremony led by the Royal British Legion and the Rev Vincent Woods, featured local leaders, including the Watchet Mayor and town council chairman Cllr Loretta Whetlor, as well as a wreath-laying, a moment of silence, and musical tribute.

A special highlight of the event was a reading by budding poet Joey Rammond, a local first school pupil who won the poetry category in the newly created ‘Watchet Town Council VE Day Art and Poetry Competition.’
Reading with great dignity, Joey delivered his poem with poise and emotion, earning heartfelt applause from those in attendance.
Mr Woods congratulated Joey on his moving and beautifully read rendition, noting it as a poignant reminder of the lasting impact of remembrance through younger generations.
All of the entries to the art and poetry competition can be seen on display in the Watchet Visitor Centre.
Town clerk Jo Grellier said: “Their legacy continues to inspire us, and it is especially meaningful to see that legacy carried forward by the young people of our community.
“Watchet Town Council extends its thanks to all who participated and helped make the event a memorable tribute to both past and future generations.”
