Further to the recent reports about the sad circumstances surrounding the death and burial of Mrs Luty and the problems experienced by her family, as an individual town councillor I wish to express my personal regret at all that has happened.

I agree that Minehead Town Council and the town clerk stuck to the letter of the law in their dealings on this matter.

However, that misses the point that what was required was a bit of human compassion, not only expressed in words but in some action, and in this, to my mind, they failed.

Therefore, as a town councillor expressing my personal opinion, I send my sincere apologies to the Luty family for what has been an unnecessarily difficult experience at an already traumatic time.
