MINEHEAD'S police cells housed some unlikely suspects this week when youngsters from the West Somerset Nursery were given a tour of the town's 'cop shop'. Around 22 five to nine-year-olds from the nursery's holiday playscheme Junior Pitstop were given a unique glimpse into the job of their local law officers. And as well as taking a look around the cells, a couple of police vehicles and the magistrates court adjoining the police station, the children also had their fingerprints taken, with the evidence sent home to their parents. The special tour was run by police community support officers Bryan Stevens and Luisa Jones, together with beat officer PC Clive Darch and included a talk about the role of the police and road safety. A nursery spokesman said the children had thoroughly enjoyed the experience: "They had a great time," she said. The Avon and Somerset force recently donated some high visibility vests to the Junior Pitstop group which the youngsters wear to and from school as part of an ongoing road safety initiative.
