SOMERSET Sight is celebrating 20 years of its hugely successful volunteer visiting service and the milestone was marked at a meeting with talks and cake in the Friends Meeting House, Minehead.
The service, which was started in West Somerset, matches blind and partially sighted people with a volunteer for companionship and practical support.
A volunteer from Somerset Sight greatly enhances a visually impaired person’s quality of life as sight loss can be very restricting and increases the risk of loneliness, isolation and depression.
Kate McCallum, a visually impaired member of staff at Somerset Sight, demonstrated various pieces of equipment, and Holly Sutton, fundraising and development officer, told the volunteers about plans for the upcoming focus week for the service in the first week in May.
The meeting ended with a special anniversary cake to thank the volunteers for their dedication and hard work. Anyone interested in joining the team of visitors can find information on the Somerset Sight website.
