RESTORING stability to Government had to be the priority after the resignation of Prime Minister Liz Truss, said West Somerset MP Ian Liddell-Grainger.
Mr Liddell-Grainger said there were too many urgent issues waiting to be tackled for the country to be side-tracked into a General Election.
He said Ms Truss had done the ‘honourable thing’ in standing down after just six weeks in office.
“She has conceded that mistakes have been made and that, particularly after the chaos in Parliament on Wednesday night, there is no possibility of her being able to deliver her vision for the future of the UK,” he said.
“I hope Conservative MPs can rapidly reach a consensus on the best person to follow her into Downing Street.”
