AROUND 45 residents of Roadwater gathered for an evening workshop on climate change on Saturday (October 26).

And it provided a trigger to establish a working group and information resource, possibly based in the village café/ community hub, due to open early next year.

The event was facilitated by local marine ecologist and environmental educator Mark Ward with members of West Somerset Together.

Mark gave a presentation on the science of climate change and some of the facts around biodiversity and the losses observed.

This was followed by group work, giving an opportunity for people to think about what they might do as a community and as individuals to reduce carbon footprint and increase biodiversity.

Feedback at the end yielded a list of ideas ranging from the relatively simple, such as planting trees or creating a community garden/ orchard, to the more ambitious, including establishing a community transport scheme based on electric vehicles.

West Somerset Together plans to offer this event to other villages in West Somerset, so this will be the first of many.
