THE heat was on in more ways than one last Saturday when Katie Wilmot and Olivia Stanbury, both year four pupils at Dunster First School, completed a triathlon to raise funds for the school. Inspired by Davina McCall on BBC Sport Relief, Katie (pictured on the left) and Olivia did a 500-metre swim, a six-mile off-road bike ride and a three-mile run. They even planned their route and training schedule, as well as all logistics themselves. The determined pair both did an excellent breaststroke to complete their swim in just 13 minutes with the bike ride taking an hour and a quarter and the run just short of 40 minutes. "At Dunster First School, we've been able to get involved with lots of different sports that we've loved and as we're about to leave, we wanted to do something to help our brilliant school," Olivia said. "The hardest part was definitely the run as we were hot and tired by then, but really we enjoyed it all," she said. The pair raised £650 for their efforts and thanked everyone who sponsored and supported them. Katie said: "We hope that the Friends of Dunster First School might buy some new sports equipment, including some tennis nets, with the money that we've raised, so that other children at the school can continue to enjoy sport as much as we have." Dunster First School headteacher Peter Hoyland congratulated the girls on their "wonderful achievement". He added: "Both girls have taken full advantage of the many sporting opportunities available at Dunster and in the past year have represented the school at tennis, swimming and running," he added. "Their wish to give something back to the school through their sponsored triathlon is admirable and the amount of money raised will help us to buy some much needed new sports equipment for the school."
