WEEDS are being cleared from the streets of Minehead over the next few weeks by town council contractors.
The work will target weeds using a highly selective herbicide application method after the council previously unsuccessfully trialed a biodegradable foam intended to avoid the use of certain chemicals.
Town clerk Ben Parker said: “This advanced technique uses chlorophyll fluorescence technology to identify and treat only weeds, ensuring very small amounts of herbicide are used and surrounding areas are left untouched.
“Some residents have asked us not to spray near their properties and we want to reassure everybody these requests will be respected.”
Mr Parker said the work was limited only to streets and would not happen in any of the town’s open spaces.
