MINEHEAD'S status as a Fairtrade town is firmly on the map. A refurbished 'welcome' sign at the Ellicombe approach to Alcombe recognises the resort's achievement as one of the first 100 towns in the UK to be awarded the designation. The Fairtrade symbol is appearing on an increasing number of foodstuffs and other items and is a registered guarantee of a better deal for Third World producers. West Somerset has its own directory, listing all local Fairtrade outlets, as well as cafes and hotels offering Fairtrade products. Pictured celebrating the installation of the refurbished sign are, from the left, Peter Thompson, Ian Nevell, Sue Burt, Ruth Jones, Marion Sayer and Meigan Lyons.
