The vehicles are jam-packed with holidaymakers bound for Butlins - there is no space for their considerable baggage so they use any seat they can for their cases.
That means the local travellers have to squeeze in where they can - often cheek by jowl with outrageously big soft toys - or stand for more than an hour. It is particularly unfair for the older people or those with babies or toddlers.
The regular commuters are the people who keep the buses going. We are the ones who pay out week after week, year-round.
Surely it is not beyond the means of Butlins to provide a coach service between Taunton and Minehead exclusively for their visitors. This would mean local people could travel in a little more comfort.
The 28 journey is one to dread on Fridays, Saturdays and Mondays - and the behaviour of some of the holidaymakers has to be seen to be believed. Many are evidently the worse for drink when they board the bus - and the poor drivers and commuters have to put up with the after-effects.
Butlins must know when their visitors are likely to arrive and depart and could easily supply a coach, calling at the bus station and the railway station in Taunton.
No doubt they will say it would be too expensive - but the present chaos cannot go on. It is high time this weekly misery was ended - and I would be interested to hear comments from Mr Leaker on the issue.
