GALES and rain prevailed the day before Timberscombe Show, and there have been difficult growing conditions this summer, yet entries held up – and a number of new people entered all sections of the show.
In the afternoon, Timberscombe Village Hall was full of locals and visitors viewing the show and then digging deep into their pockets to buy produce auctioned by Ken Powls. They also did their own judging to award ‘The People’s Choice’ prize.
There was a new cup this year, donated by Harry and Sue Crawford, to be presented annually for the best sweet peas.
The judges were John Keal, Sue Crawford, Fiona Plumstead, Sally Farmer and Jamie and Lisa Waters, who were thanked for giving up their time and for their expertise.
Trophy winners, pictured, were: Best in show, Catherine Jarvis, runner-up, Joy Booth; vegetables and fruit, John Gratton; flowers, Catherine Jarvis; sweet peas, Catherine Jarvis; flower arrangement, Joy Booth; cookery, Wendy Cook; handicraft, Catherine Jarvis; photograph, Kayleigh Campbell-Farmer; best child’s exhibit, Iola Tompson, runner-up, Tehya See; most points overall, Gabrielle Horrobin; people’s choice, Joy Booth.
Full results are in tomorrow’s Free Press (August 30)
