WASHFORD Cheerleading group South Coast Waves will be competing in the French capital – and taking part in a Disneyland parade after coming through an audition with flying colours.

The club meets three times a week in Washford, teaching youngsters aged four to 13, and members compete regularly in contests across the country. But Paris is their first international challenge – and the culmination of months of hard work and fund-raising.

“We are so proud of all our athletes – they all have made so much progress and are all very determined,” said Staci Sherman, co-founder of the group.

“This is an amazing opportunity for young people from our area. We are so grateful to local people and businesses who support us.”

The club is always keen to attract new members prepared to commit and train, whatever their ability.

“Cheerleading is a physical sport, keeping young people fit and healthy. “Our members learn the basics and the skills and techniques that are needed to build a competitive team,” said Staci.

The club meets at Washford village hall on Wednesdays from 4.30pm to 6pm. Sessions cost £6. Once a month the club holds open tumble and air track sessions and private sessions are available with the coaches.
