WEST Somerset opened a window on agriculture and tourism when the district's annual celebration of rural life - Dunster Show - marked its 165th year.

With near perfect weather and against the backdrop of the village's historic castle, the event last Friday attracted thousands of visitors.

Show chairman Edward Down said organisers had been thrilled at the gate figures - between 7,000 and 8,000 - as well as the number of entries for classes across the board.

"We believe it was one of our best shows," said Mr Down.

"Hopefully, everyone who came along enjoyed themselves.

"Dunster is principally an agricultural show and we want to retain it as such, although there is certainly plenty to entertain the crowds.

"We have a fantastic location and a great show - it's a window for both agriculture and tourism in the area."
