SIR - Having read Reece Williams' letter about the dog that was attacked (Free Press April 18), I too had my little rescue dog attacked on the lower slopes of North Hill last Tuesday morning (April 15). This was a quite unprovoked attack. He was picked up by what I believe was a cream coloured Saluki-type dog and literally shaken like a rat. On returning home I found deep bite wounds between the shoulder blades and another above his back legs. On taking him to my local vet, he kept him in for the afternoon to clean his wounds and insert four stitches under anaesthetic, and advised me that there was a lot of damage underneath the skin. The initial cost with antibiotics, injections etc came to £159. Fortunately the wounds are healing thanks to my vet, but both Elmo and I are very apprehensive on our walks and have not yet ventured back on to North Hill. I hope the owner concerned will now make sure that her dog is muzzled when walking in a public place and that it is kept on a lead, as I would not like this traumatic experience to happen to anyone else. Wendy Martin, Woodcombe.
