SIR — I hope that the person who stole the crown of thorns from the cross outside The Avenue Methodist Church in Minehead will have a better understanding of the word "Crucifixion" and the pain caused by such a crown being forced on Christ's head.

His words were "Father forgive them for they know not what they do", so perhaps the person concerned will have a conscience and a little decency and so return the crown to the church garden for future use.
