SIR — Can someone please explain the logic behind the newly-installed illuminated excess speed warning sign that has recently been installed in the Hopcott Road?

This sign has been located less than 100 yards before the 40 mile per hour limit sign, or to put it another way, less than five seconds if travelling at 30 mph.

As the 40 limit sign can be seen at the same time, this will have no effect at all.

It cannot be said to benefit the exit of the fire station as this is after the 40 limit sign has been passed.

Logic and common sense surely suggests that this should have been located on the opposite side of the road, thereby warning of the reduction from 40mph to 30mph when approaching the Alcombe roundabout. I can only assume that the installers had their plans upside down when carrying out the work.

May I also suggest that a couple of additional warning signs be located in suitable places on the Periton Road as I know, having lived there for several years, that this is used by many as a race track especially at night.
