SIR — Thank you Butlin’s for yet another splendid firework display along Minehead seafront on Guy Fawkes Night.

But, oh, what on Earth has happened to the streetlights along the promenade?

They are so dim and dull it made the seafront look quite sinister and unwelcoming.

Then you turn into The Avenue where the beautiful cobweb glitter balls hang creatively hidden amongst the branches of the trees - truly magical and such a contrast to the gloomy seafront.

It’s about time the council made the seafront a bright, cheerful place on a dark night.

So instead of spending money changing the controversial paving slabs in Dunster, why not invest in some traditional seaside illuminations to welcome our much-needed visitors to our historic resort?

Jenny Campbell,

Bowline Court,

Minehead.
