SIR — Having grown up in Williton and now exiled in North Devon, I have followed the development of a supermarket at Williton (or lack of it) with interest. I have long held the view that the best location for a supermarket in the area would be on land adjoining the Tropiquaria site if such land was available. A supermarket on this site would serve not only Williton but also Watchet and Washford, where presently there are very few credible options. A petrol station beside a supermarket would also be ideal as again there are few easily accessible stations in the Williton area and local residents are unable to benefit from lower supermarket petrol prices. A supermarket and petrol station on this site would be easily accessible from all directions by road and is already on a recognised bus route. I regularly return to West Somerset to visit family, and whilst any development needs to be appropriate and tasteful, it has saddened me that during the 25 years or so I have been living in North Devon the level of progress made in West Somerset does not appear to have matched that achieved in my area, despite talk of such things regularly filling the pages of the Free Press and various forums. If you want to promote an area to attract people to live, work and visit, you need to offer facilities. Neil Atherton, Moreton Park Road, Bideford.
