STAFF and customers at Tesco in Minehead have been working hard to ensure 15 families in need enjoy a Christmas dinner this year by collecting donations for special Christmas Dinner Gift Boxes.

The boxes have been donated to the West Somerset Food Cupboard to distribute to West Somerset families in need, alongside their own food packages.

Each box contains everything needed for a Christmas dinner as well as a £10 gift card to buy a turkey.

Tesco customers were asked to donate a single item towards the boxes, from tinned vegetables and stuffing to Christmas pudding and crackers, and they were able to track the progress of the collection thanks to charts displayed in store.

Kirsty Allen, who co-ordinated the Tesco effort, said: “The West Somerset Food Cupboard does a wonderful job all year round, but we just wanted to do something extra for those in need at Christmas.

“We were overwhelmed by the generosity of our customers and staff.”
