ANOTHER boost to Minehead lifeboat crew’s fund-raising campaign to buy a new boat has come from some of the station’s most stalwart supporters.
Members of St Andrew’s Men’s Club in Taunton handed over a £1,000 cheque at the weekend – the second major donation the club has made in less than a year.
The RNLI station has been set the target of finding £52,000 for a replacement D-class lifeboat to replace its existing one, due to be withdrawn after ten years’ service at the end of 2019.
St Andrew’s club members have been raising money for the station for several years: “We are really grateful for their unstinting and loyal support,” said Minehead RNLI chairman Bryan Stoner.
“It’s immensely gratifying for the crew to have this link with the club and to know that even they live some way from the sea the members really understand and appreciate the importance of the service the RNLI provides – and the amount of time, dedication and effort that that involves.”
Fund-raising committee member Tim Marsh is pictured receiving the cheque from St Andrew’s club members Ken Robinson, left, and Des Bridge.
