THE Rotary Club of Minehead is on the lookout for swimmers to take the plunge and raise thousands of pounds for charity in this year's Swimathon.
Over the years, the Swimathon has raised £25,000 for international, national and local groups and charities, with more teams competing every year.
Last year's event was one of the most successful to date, with 102 teams taking part and raising £5,046.
Now organisers are planning Swimathon 2001 at Minehead's Aquasplash pool next month.
Teams of six are needed to be sponsored to swim two lengths of the 25-metre pool in turn for 55 metres.
The teams can be friends, work colleagues, school mates, sports club members and even family groups. A number of cups and trophies will be awarded to the best competitors in a range of sections.
Various evenings have been earmarked for Swimathon 2001 to take place, starting on Wednesday, March 7, from 5pm to 7pm.
Other sessions will be held on: Monday, March 12, from 7pm to 10pm; Wednesday, March 14, from 5pm to 10pm; Friday, March 16, from 6pm to 9.30pm; Monday, March 19, from 7pm to 10pm; Wednesday, March 21, from 5pm to 10pm; Thursday, March 22, from 7.30pm to 9.30pm; Friday, March 23, from 5pm to 7pm; Tuesday, March 27, from 5pm to 10pm.
