WATCHET Dementia Alliance has been gathering support as it raises funds for the Forget Me Not Café which is open fortnightly at the Sanctuary.

The Spice Merchant Indian restaurant in Watchet offers Monday nights to local charities for fundraising and last week 35 people supporting the Watchet Dementia Alliance took up the opportunity.

Any charity interested in meeting and dining the Spice Merchant should contact the manager, Asfar Udin at the restaurant on 01984 634500.

Meanwhile, the Swain Street Co-Op festooned the till with balloons to raise awareness of the alliance and boost its funds.

Shane Parks, the shop manager, is a member of the Watchet Dementia Alliance steering committee and hopes customers will pick up a leaflet explaining how to help people living in Watchet with dementia or other memory problems.

The café is open to anyone with dementia and their carers as well as other interested people. Once a month Compass Carers send a representative to discuss personal issues – there is a private room available for this-as well as give out general information.

The café also has a small library of books about dementia. Other activities include singing, games and simple crafts. But the main purpose is for people to meet, share experiences and eat some cake!

For more information about Watchet Dementia Action Alliance call or text Margaret Tatham on 07973638030 or email [email protected] – or drop in to the next café meeting on Wednesday, February 3 between 10am and midday.
