AN ambitious summer season of spectatular attractions which is hoped will bring thousands of new visitors to the town has been revealed by Minehead Events Group.

“We have been working hard to provide something really special for the 2018 summer season which will make Minehead even more of a premier holiday destination,” group chairman Cllr Andrew Hadley said this week.

“We learned a lot from last year’s events and everything is set to provide some really top class summer attractions which we hope will bring in the crowds and benefit everyone in the town.”

They include:

* Confirmation of plans to bring back the 33-metre high observation wheel, first seen in 2015, to the seafront from March 23 to April 15, covering Easter.

* A re-run of the Festival of Wheels event when 3,000 visitors watched hundreds of cyclists race through the town centre.

This year’s event, to be held in June rather than September, has been rebranded the Minehead Grand Prix and it is hoped to attract some of the country’s top riders.

* A harbour-based two-day Summer Festival on August 4-5 featuring Thundercat inflatable catamarans racing at up to 70mph around Minehead Bay.
