We are happy to help anyone who wishes to see this extremely valuable asset revitalised, but we have no plans ourselves for a major takeover.
A successful TIC in Minehead itself is essential for the wellbeing of the whole area, and we just want to ensure that we don't lose any potential visitor to the area during this interim period.
We appreciate that Minehead is very different to Porlock, but it is interesting that we are thriving, where much larger towns throughout the country are losing their TICs.
This is totally due to the amazing support Porlock Visitor Centre receives from the village. We have so much incredible support, in time, expertise and money from the community, which enables us to continue during this difficult time.
The most recent example is Kelly Creech, who last Sunday did a sponsored swim in very difficult sea conditions, wearing a Halloween outfit, and raised over £500 for the centre.
A huge thank you to Kelly and all the other wonderful people who support us. Without you we would not exist.
The staff are all committed people who work tirelessly to make sure that all visitors have a good experience of Exmoor, while at the same time making sure that visitors stopping on their way through Porlock intending to stay at other places along the coast stay for at least one night in the village.
Our bookings are up 50 per cent on last year and whatever happens we are determined that we will survive, but we want everyone else to survive too.
So come on Minehead, support each other and you too can have a great Tourist Information Centre.
Denise Sage,
Porlock Visitor Centre.
