WEST Somerset College students Cory Taylor and Amanda Lee are drumming up support for a fundraising initiative in memory of their nans.
The pair have teamed up with Peggy Richardson, the assistant manager of the Cancer Research Shop in Minehead, to organise a fun run to raise money for the charity Stand Up To Cancer.
“The reason my friend Amanda and I decided to organise this fun run is because both of our nans passed away due to this horrible disease and we wanted to raise money for Stand Up to Cancer as together we can beat cancer,” said Cory.
She asked Mrs Richardson for help and the college agreed to host the event on the playing field next Saturday (October 10), starting at 11am.
Both Mrs Richardson and the college have also been helping Cory and Amanda to publicise the event and distribute sponsorship forms.
The fun run will take in five laps of the college field and is open to anyone who would like to raise money for the charity.
Sponsorship forms are available from the college’s main reception or from the Cancer Research Shop in Minehead.
There will be an entrance fee payable on the day of £2 for adults and £1 for under 16s.
All proceeds will go to Stand Up To Cancer. Refreshments will be available from the cricket pavilion.
There will also be a competition between the college’s tutor groups to see who can raise the most money, and the winners will receive a group prize donated by Mrs Richardson.
