TOO many cooks will not spoil the broth for Stogursey Lunches, a group of volunteers who have been providing free home cooked meals for villagers for the past four years.
Stogursey Lunches is appealing for more cooks to help keep the meals flowing at its Tuesday gatherings, which take place in the village’s Jubilee Rooms, in Castle Street.
Last year, the group had to stop serving meals on the first Tuesday of the month because of a general shortage of helpers, but it has been able to keep providing them on the other Tuesdays.
It is continuing to appeal for more volunteers, and now particularly needs more people to help cook the lunches.
A spokesperson said: “We are looking for more helpers at the lunches, especially cooks, and if you could spare an occasional Tuesday we would love to hear from you.
“You would be very welcome to drop in on a Tuesday morning, but not the first Tuesday of the month, to meet some of the volunteers and see what goes on.
“Alternatively, to arrange a chat and find out more, contact us on the email [email protected].”
The group, which was founded in 2021, prepares the food and sets tables from 10 am, and then serves the meals at 12.30 pm, asking only for a donation if people can afford it.
It is also appealing for any donations of food.
The spokesperson said: “We would be very grateful for any surplus produce offered, so that we can ensure that our meals include delicious local produce, and that there is no waste.
“If you have a glut, please think of us.
“We promise to use your produce well to produce delicious, nutritious meals.”
Stogursey Lunches was originally based in the Church Rooms before moving to the Jubilee Rooms.
