SIR — Having lived here for nigh on 11 years, one could not fail to miss the substantial increase in visitor numbers to our shores over the past week or two.

The number of young children and accompanying family members would suggest that Butlin’s are to be thanked for their vision and corresponding recent investment they have made in the region.

I for one would like to see some effort from others who may be able to assist by consolidating this truly wonderful support for the town and surrounding area as a whole.

Why not start with rebranding the area as “Minehead Bay” and create a vision based on a seaside town rather than a market town?

Let us also recognise hidden assets rather than bulldoze anything that may appear old as they do in the USA.

One classic example is the recent highly publicised proposed Watchet Radio Museum where there exists an extremely high level of knowledge with possibly 100 times the earning potential of a Ferris Wheel.

This knowledge will need to be passed on to others - why not here in Somerset?
