Once they were the pride of their village, but now does anyone know anything about the sporting feats of Washford Football Club teams which were a force to be reckoned with in local soccer over a century ago?
Watchet resident Martin Stevens is hoping that they do. "A lot of my family came from Washford and were involved with the football club for many years. I’ve inherited these photographs because my paternal grandfather, Charles Stevens, a trainer at the club, is in both pictures.
"I would love to know more about the club, where it played and what happened to it. There are a number of familiar local names among the players and I’m hoping someone may have information passed down through the generations
Martin added: "All I know is that the earlier picture is of the 1899-1900 team and that the other could date from the mid-1920s. I do hope someone can come up with some clues. This is fascinating local history and shouldn’t be forgotten."
