A FORMER West Somerset public library building has been put on the market as bankruptcy-threatened Somerset Council continues a fire sale of unwanted property to raise cash.
Property agents Greenslade Taylor Hunt (GTH) said the old Williton Library, in Killick Way, could be re-purposed for a range of commercial or residential uses.
The library service was recently relocated to nearby West Somerset House, which reopened in June after a six-month refurbishment costing £400,000.
The vacant library site covers 0.08 acres and could, subject to obtaining planning permission, offer commercial or residential alternatives.
It is on the market with a guide price of £150,000 and the deadline for the submission of offers to GTH is 12 noon on Friday, October 24.
The modern detached single-storey building features an open plan lending library area, with office, staff room, kitchenette, accessible toilet, and storage areas.
Outside is a small gated parking area and a bin storage space.

Somerset Council is also selling off a former children’s centre which has similarly relocated to West Somerset House, hoping to raise at least £215,000, and the Beckett House enterprise centre in Bridge Street, for about £200,000.
The sales have angered Williton Parish Council, which wanted to have a first refusal option and which queried how the unitary authority could be allowed to sell off properties which had been built with money raised from the public.
