SIR — I feel I must write to say how wonderful all the events have been this year in Watchet. So many different events – the carnival, Summertime, children’s events, art exhibitions etc. You name the, Watchet will organise them, and they are well organised, too – friendly, fun, sometimes beautiful, musically good, amazing, amusing and moving, too.

It has been an exciting year so far and, no doubt, more is to come. Great!

So it worries me and dismays me a bit when I hear people moaning about contribution buckets or raffle tickets for sale. Don’t they realise that these events have to be planned and insurance for everyone’s safety paid for?

So much work is done voluntarily – committees work together wonderfully well – but some things have to be paid for.

I’m looking forward already to next year’s events – and shall even welcome the raffle ticket sellers and the contribution buckets too.
