A BUMPER cheque for £4,400 was handed over to Minehead Lifeboat by local company A Care Leisure – the money they raised at this year’s annual raft race.
A Care, based on Mart Road industrial estate, specialise in bespoke camper van conversions, and they have provided plenty of entertainment over the years when they take to the water as the Happy Campers – not always with great success!
Jim Whittaker, chairman of the RNLI HarbourFest Committee, said: “This is such a huge amount of money for one local business to raise and we are so very grateful to A Care.
“The support from our community for the lifeboats is something we’ll never take for granted.
“Every year individuals, groups and organisations from across our region enter the event, raise money, sponsor fireworks and entertainment and offer help to make RNLI HarbourFest a success.
“Right now we’re faced with needing to raise over £50,000 specifically for a new D class lifeboat for the station - this kind of support has never been so important and so much appreciated.”
Next year’s RNLI HarbourFest is on August 18 and 19.
