BROMPTON Regis postmistress and governor of Kingsmead Community School, in Wiveliscombe, Jennifer Stringer, has been busy collecting money towards the cost of the school's current Zambian exchange project.

Mrs Stringer, whose two children are pupils at Kingsmead, kept a large empty bottle on the post office counter and challenged customers to fill it with their loose change.

Her customers rose to the challenge and filled the bottle to the brim - it now weighs in at 44 lbs and was due to be handed over to Kingsmead's headteacher John Wray this week.

The money will be put towards the cost of the school's first exchange trip with students from a school in Zambia who arrived in Britain last week.

Pupils from Kingsmead will make a return visit to the African country next year.

Mr Wray said he was delighted to be receiving the donation from Mrs Stringer.

He said: "We have worked very hard to establish the Kingsmead-Zambia exchange and it has only been possible to give the Zambian students the opportunity to travel to the United Kingdom through the efforts of people like Mrs Stringer.

"We are extremely grateful to all the people in the Brompton Regis area who have supported this appeal."
