TWO sets of sisters from Minehead are raising funds for charities dedicated to supporting cancer sufferers after both their families were hit by the disease.

Annette Bartlett and Louise Doolan have joined forces with Solveiga Knight and Edita Neveraskous to stage the 'Circle of Hope' fun run in Minehead's Blenheim Gardens on September 29.

The women, who have all experienced cancer in their immediate families, will be hoping to boost the funds of Macmillan Cancer Support and the St Francis Cancer Support Centre in Lithuania, which is supported by Macmillan and where Solveiga and Edita have family and friends.

"Having cancer touch you or somebody close brings home the valuable emotional and practical support Macmillan gives to families and friends," said Louise.

The sisters are asking people of all ages to take part in one or more of the fun run categories, which will be held over a circular 500-metre route between 1pm and 5pm.

Categories include a single lap for toddlers, a three-legged run and a five lap - 2.5km - race.

Local businesses, schools and community groups are also being encouraged to enter teams of five to compete in a team-building relay event.

Annette said: "All four of us are actively involved in the Minehead community and so we know what wonderful people live here.

"We are sure many will want to take part in our fun run to show their appreciation and support for such worthwhile causes."

Medals will be awarded to everyone who takes part, with prizes donated by local businesses.

Entries cost £2 but the sisters hope that all participants will also raise other sponsorship or donations which can be handed in on the day.

Other money spinning activities at the fun run will include a 'jump and slide' bouncy castle, sumo suits, lucky dip, tombola and hoopla.

More details about the event and how to take part are available from Annette on 07828 115676, at nettejoy@yahoo. co.uk or from The Circle of Hope page on Facebook.
