MINEHEAD Singing for the Brain really got into the swing of things when 45 people attended a 1970s party to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Alzheimer’s Society.

Cream teas were provided and a special cake was made by Sandie Floyde, pictured on the left with Janet Chiswell (centre) and Jenny Price.

Songs from the 1970s were sung and many people were in fancy dress.

The Alzheimers’s Society was formed in 1979 by a small group of people who wanted to make life easier for carers of people with dementia.

Dementia was rarely spoken about and was definitely kept in the shadows.

This attitude has changed dramatically and Minehead Dementia Action Alliance work closely with the Alzheimer’s Society to run the Singing for the Brain and memory café sessions at Alcombe Methodist Church on Thursday mornings.

The Minehead Dementia Action Alliance also organises other regular activities which include Amble not Ramble, tea dances and the Forget-me-Nots group.
