SIR — Travelling to work in Taunton last week, I observed a large bird feeding on some "road kill" near Elworthy Cross.
As I approached, I noticed that it was clearly not the ubiquitous buzzard.
The size, plumage colour and unmistakable forked tail confirmed this was a Red Kite.
My daughter, when returning from work recently, witnessed this same breed in almost exactly the same spot.
I have heard of recent sightings of this magnificent bird in the Drapers Way area; it would be wonderful if it was gaining a foothold on Exmoor when previously it was confined to areas of rural mid-Wales.
I wonder if any of your readers have witnessed the Red Kite anywhere in the locality and if the RSPB are aware of its presence.
