WORK costing £750,000 to replace a section of the wall at East Quay, Watchet in front of the newly-opened £7.3 community cultural centre, has now been completed, Somerset West and Taunton council announced this week.

Work on the 150-year-old wall was found necessary following a professional survey during the new development on the East Quay. The wall is part of the structure of the marina and protects Watchet as a sea defence.

It was carried out by TMS Maritime Ltd, a marine piling company with years of experience in similar projects.

Cllr Marcus Kravis, executive member for assets, said: “I am pleased to see the completion of this work at East Quay. It has been another huge project delivered by SWT to protect our coastal communities and I would like to thank them for bearing with us while we carried out this work.”

SWT also recently completed a £1m project to rebuild the Splash Point sea defence wall in Watchet after it was destroyed in the winter storms of 2019/20.
