PUPILS at Cutcombe Primary School have been on a roll - a Project ROLL (Rural Opportunities for Lifelong Learning) to be more precise. The youngsters have been using laptop computers provided by The West Somerset Initiative to create electronic books featuring articles on a range of school events. The project has been co-ordinated by Gill Priddy who, in turn, has been undertaking similar ventures in first schools across West Somerset. The work undertaken at Cutcombe will now be used by volunteer Cynthia Stevens to expand the Wheddon Cross village website. Mrs Priddy said: "Cutcombe has been a really good example of what Project ROLL set out to achieve, where ICT can reach the wider community via the first schools with volunteers working alongside the children." Cutcombe headteacher Mo Best said she was particularly pleased the material would be added to the village website as the school had recently been visited by a group of Australian tourists who had first spotted the area on the website. She said: "Cynthia has helped us a lot in the past and we are particularly grateful to her for all she has done to get the children's work onto the website. "We are also grateful to Project ROLL, which has provided invaluable experience for the children, and we hope it can continue."
