SANTA Claus ­made his annual visit to Watchet on Christmas Eve, riding a new sleigh pulled by four of his reindeer.

He started his visit at Cherry Tree Way and travelled around Watchet before finishing at Lorna Doone, off West Street, accompanied by carnival queen Jodie Prescott and her attendant Sophie Hooper.

They and Santa’s other helpers distributed sweets, which were donated by the Watchet Royal British Legion Club, to the children who came out to see him, and he also received letters from some of the children with their present wishes.

Santa was greeted by large crowds of people and many gave him and his helpers refreshments during the long journey.

On his tour, he presented the trophies and prizes for Watchet Live’s annual illuminations competition. Results and more pictures in the Free Press.
