THE Royal Mail made it a red letter day for Minehead Running Club member Angela Morley.

Angela and three fellow runners set off for the Lake District last Friday to take part in the Great Langdale marathon and half marathon.

But en route on the five-hour journey Angela realised she had left her running number at home in Nether Stowey.

She immediately phoned her husband and he put it in the post that afternoon but Angela was not hopeful it would arrive in time and feared she might not be putting her running shoes on.

However, the following morning just as the runners were finishing breakfast at their B&B in Kendal, a Royal Mail van drew up and to Angela's surprise a postman handed over her number.

She completed the half marathon, coming fifth in her category, while fellow Minehead runner Jackie Batten finished third in hers and Paul Coomber crossed the line in just over two and a half hours.

The fourth Minehead runner, Lee Cowling attempted the full marathon and finished with a time of 5.12.27.

And the group's efforts raised around £600 for the Help For Heroes charity.

Angela said luckily the weather had been fabulous.

"Apparently these races have the reputation as being amongst the toughest road events in the UK and are exceptionally hilly, with some parts of the climb being one in three," she said.

"But we all had a great run - thanks to the Royal Mail."
