MINEHEAD Rotary Club is on the lookout for people to enter two competitions perfect for budding writers and photographers.

If you are aged between seven and 17 and have an interest in photography or creative writing then you are just the person to enter either The Young Photographer or Young Writer competitions organised by the local Rotarians.

The theme for the photograph is The Colours of Nature and can be taken on any camera or a camera phone and the current winter colour provides great opportunities to capture those or other images.

If you are an aspiring writer the competition theme is Environment and can be prose of a maximum 550 words or poetry of a maximum of 40 lines and can be either fiction or non-fiction.

The closing date for the local round of each competition is December 31 and the results will be announced in January.

The winning entries will then be submitted for rounds including Somerset, Dorset and Wiltshire and then onto a National Final to be held next year.

All entrants will receive a certificate of participation at each stage of the competition and the photo and writing judged to be best over the three age groups will each receive a cheque for £30.

So get writing and/or photographing this month and you could be a winner.
