Minehead Rotary Club is staging its Young Photographer and Young Writer competitions for seven to 17-year-olds.

The photographic theme is Wild Nature while aspiring writers have been tasked with My Happiest Day.

Photos can be taken on any camera or a camera phone, and the subject can range from autumn colours to wild seas or anything in between.

Young Writer entries may be in prose (550 words maximum) or poetry (up to 40 lines), either fiction or non-fiction.

The closing date for the local round of each competition is Tuesday, December 1, and the results will be announced on Monday, December 21.

The winning entries will then be submitted for rounds including Somerset, Dorset and Wiltshire and then onto a national final to be held next year.

At the National Final of the Young Writer competition, the winners of each of the three age groups will receive a vocational experience such as working on a newspaper or in a publishing environment with a professional practitioner.

Young Photographer national winners in each of the three age groups will be given an opportunity to participate in a vocational experience with a professional photographer.

All entrants will receive a certificate of participation at each stage of the competition.
