AN appeal has been made to help catch the person responsible for deliberately damaging signs on a West Somerset road.

Signs along the A396 which runs through Dunster, Timberscombe, and Wheddon Cross to Tiverton have been vandalised twice in as many months.

Timberscombe Parish Council clerk Lesley Webb asked for anybody who ‘can shed any light on who did this’ to contact her.

Ms Webb said: “This is a crime which has been reported to the police.

“Somerset Council have already replaced one of the 30 mph signs only to have it damaged again a few weeks later.

“This is mindless damage which has to be paid for by all of us who are taxpayers.”

Ms Webb said anybody who saw somebody interfering with the road signs in the future should call the police on 999 if the damage was in progress.

She said: “If you are able to get a registration number, photo, or description that would be wonderful, but please do not put yourself in danger, as this person is clearly deranged.”
