As co-authors of the successful “Maritime history of Somerset”, Dr Adrian Webb and I are currently researching the history of St Decuman’s between 1600 and 1660, a turbulent period in English history.

We would very much like to hear from any resident of Watchet or Williton or elsewhere who lives in a home with a 17th century date attached to the outside or engraved on beams or other woodwork inside.

We are aware of three exterior dates - 1607, 1616 and 1624 - on Williton homes but are looking for more contemporary evidence of 17th century construction.
