A RED Arrows fly-past can be witnessed over Exmoor and near Wiveliscombe and the Blackdown Hills on Friday and Saturday (August 22 and 23) - weather permitting.

On Friday, the world famous Royal Air Force display team will be making its way from Exeter Airport to display at the Clacton Airshow, in Essex.

The flightpath takes the nine iconic red colour BAE Systems’ Hawk T.1A fast-jets over West Anstey at about 6.24 pm.

The team will continue past Dulverton and cross the half-empty Wimbleball Lake before swinging south east and passing over Upton at about 6.25 pm, continuing past Skilgate, Petton, and Clayhanger.

On Saturday, it will be the turn of residents in Culm Valley and Blackdown Hills communities to be treated to the sight of the Red Arrows, again, weather permitting.

This time, the team will be flying from Exeter Airport to RAF Mildenhall, in Suffolk

The flightpath shows the aircraft leaving Exeter at 10.40 am and flying past Uffculme, Culmstock, and Hemyock to reach Clayhidon at 10.43 am, where they will curve round to head off in the direction of Chard and Dorset.

The Red Arrows, based in RAF Waddington, Lincolnshire, is celebrating its 60th anniversary and has flown nearly 5,000 displays in 57 countries since its formation in 1965.

Red Arrows pilots usually serve a three-year tour with the display team and must previously have flown with frontline squadrons before they can be recruited.

Pilots currently serving have completed operational tours in Afghanistan and Libya, or been part of the UK and Falkland Islands’ Quick Reaction Alert.
