THIRTY employers and training providers took part in Recruit West Somerset – and were overwhelmed by the response.
More than 200 people went to the Beach Hotel in Minehead for the job-matching and career-changing event on February 24.
It was organised by West Somerset Council and Job Centre Plus with workshops before the main event provided by Opportunity Plus in conjunction with The 25.
Initial feedback showed that the 25 employers and five training providers were impressed with the quality of candidates discussing their vacancies.
They also appreciated the chance to network with other local employers, the professional organisation of the event and the venue.
The workshops leading up to the event covered tips on CVs, how to prepare for an interview, and mock interviews.
Minehead Cllr Andrew Hadley said: “It was a fantastic to see so many diverse businesses with real opportunities available to residents of West Somerset taking part in in the Recruit West Somerset event.
“There were clearly vacancies available to all abilities and ages from apprenticeship for school leavers, training opportunities for people looking to change their career direction to fully qualified people required to work in the many areas of the Hinkley Point C project.
“I was pleased to see the hall full of local people talking to these businesses and taking advantage of these very real opportunities available.
“This was a thoroughly successful event and the organisers deserve thanks for their tremendous efforts.”
Anyone who was offered a job as a result of the event is asked to contact West Somerset Council’s employment and skills officer Emily Wishart at [email protected] or hub development officer Colleen Blake at [email protected].
