WORK will start next week to rebuild an Exmoor road closed since damage caused by Storm Bert last November.

The route through Bonniton Land and Broadwood Road, outside Dunster, became dangerous for vehicles to pass when an embankment collapsed, taking out some carriageway.

Contractors from Walters are due on site on Thursday (April 24) to begin repairs which are expected to take 36 weeks until the end of the year.

Somerset Council closed the route after the storm damage, but local residents reported barriers used by the authority were being repeatedly thrown into a stream at the side of the road as some motorists insisted on squeezing past.

Their actions were said to leave the road even more dangerous for unsuspecting drivers, particularly at night.
