CROWCOMBE Village Hall rang with cries of excitement when the Coleridge Committee and Friends of Old Quantock Rotary presented a ‘Night at the Races’ on Friday (November 11).
Over 100 people were at the Macmillan Cancer Support social evening and raised more than £1,400.
The money raised will contribute to the Coleridge Committee’s continuing fundraising campaign – over £250,00 since its inception – and will include a generous donation to the West Somerset Talking Newspaper.
The night offered eight races for sponsors and punters to enjoy with “very colourful” commentary by resident racing expert David Roach.
Friends of Old Quantock Rotary ran the tote and technical matters while the Coleridge Committee and friends took charge of the raffle, bar and, mid-programme, served a banquet of finger food.
Coleridge Committee chairman Maggie Pumphrey presented the prizes, thanking all those contributing to the evening’s success, particularly the event’s main sponsor Philip Hobbs, of Sandhill Racing Stables, and the other sponsors of races, horses and jockeys for their generous support.
