A LITTLE known West Somerset charity, the Church Unity Emergency Fund, has reached a significant milestone – its 75th anniversary.
It was established in 1944 “for the relief of emergency cases amongst the poor residents of the Urban District of Minehead requiring financial assistance”, with senior clergy from local churches serving as trustees.
Later amalgamation with the municipal charity means it now makes small discretionary grants to those in need who live in West Somerset.
Community groups can also benefit – in recent years Home Start, the Hope Centre and the Alcombe Food Cupboard have received grants.
The work of the charity will be celebrated in the autumn and the trustees would like to hear from recipients willing to share their stories.
Applications for assistance can be made to the trustees’ clerk Rebecca Padgett at Thorne Segar, 3 Bancks Street, Minehead TA24 5DE.
