HOW to water hanging baskets without getting wet feet was one of the many posers put to the panel of a Gardeners' Question Time on Friday.

The annual Minehead in Bloom fundraising event took place in Alcombe Village Hall where there was also a raffle run by Minehead Gardeners' Association.

The joint effort raised just over £100 for this year's floral displays.

Minehead's town clerk Mervyn Yendole chaired the Question Time, which also raised issues such as identifying and dealing with plant infestation and garden pests.

Panel members Stuart Parkman, of Triscombe Nurseries, and John Docker, of JD Plants at Washford, were joined by local flower grower and arranger Pat Phillips.

Nurseryman Bill Parfitt was forced to pull out at the last minute, but his place was taken by Minehead in Bloom chairman Martyn Snell, of Pennard Plants.

The next fundraising event is a garden party at 29 Lower Park, Minehead, from 2.30pm to 4.30pm on July 1. Attractions include garden games, plants for sale and refreshments. Admission 50p.
