THE Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service – the highest royal acolade given to voluntary bodies – was presented to two West Somerset groups at packed ceremonies in Minehead and Watchet on Wednesday.
Somerset Lord Lieutenant Anne Maw (pictured) handed over certificates signed by the Queen and domed glass crystals to representatives of Watchet Live CIC - organisers of the town’s music festival - and the Proactive Lifestyle and Water Activities Club (PALS), based at St Audries Bay Holiday Club.
They were the only two groups in the county to win the coveted 2017 award.
Mrs Maw said: “You are exceptional people doing something remarkable. You should be very proud of what you have achieved.”
